New brakes all around, parking brake & driveshaft

New shoes, new wheel cylinders, new brake kits and adjuster star wheels, etc.
Let's get rolling...

Whenever possible, we'd much prefer using original parts. The parking brake spreader bars just needed some cleanup. American made steel. Good for another 60 yrs!

Notice original yellow paint markings on center hubs. That's original 1957 paint!

Connected the brake hoses (w/brass washers) on the fronts.

Brake line clips installed.

Jerry looks focused!

Getting ready to install the parking brake cables & levers. Referencing the '57 AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual)

Parking brake cable boots installed.

Rear hard brake lines installed.

Parking brake lever & return spring.

Took the driveshaft to have it balanced and to have new U-joints installed.

Remember those original "yellow" part numbers on the driveshaft? About a hands-width away from the U-joint?  Stay tuned...

We saved the original U-joints.

Driveshaft is ready for final finishing.

All prep'd.

Primed.

Painted.

And part # Stencil'd.  Ready for install.

Steering drag link rebuild, zerk fittings, transmission linkage, driveshaft, clutch cross-shaft

The original drag link

Some pretty ancient (and solidified) grease

Disassembled & needing degreased

Ready to reassemble

Note: prior to installing we shot it with matte clear to prevent rusting

Drag link installed

We installed (approx. 18 zerk fittings on the upper & lower A-arms and tie rod ends)

Part of the transmission shifter linkage was seized from corrosion & rust. Started disassembly.

Took some persuasion, but we got it apart.

Dropped them into the ChemDip. We'll get back to that in a few days...

The original driveshaft.  See it?

Original driveshafts were stenciled with part # "3712377"

Difficult to see in the photo, but there's the "237" portion of the part # stencil

Connecting clutch cross-shft to chassis - need to sand off some powder coating

Trip to Chris' shop...

Loaded up the sand blasted/refinished seat frames ...and the '57 seats Compared them to what you get from Al Knoch reproductions Chris...
